A BIO of Dave the Tent Smith
Dave Ellis ” tent maker” in Durango Co has been building canvas tepee tents for working cowboys in the south west for 35 years.
The concept of a natural fiber lightweight tent came about when Ellis Canvas Tents and Snowtrekker Tents teamed up to have an ultra strong natural fiber tent.
I am a fabricator by profession, although I have a particular set of skill . my skill set ranges from upholstery too covers and enclosures of all kinds made with Canvas. The choice to get into tent design and fabrication was a deliberate one because local outfitters shared there design concepts and I put them into application. Before long I became noted for two distinct products in the southwest, Bedrolls and Cowboy Tepee’s. I have made hundreds of wall tents but my specialty has always been the tepee style canvas tents. After many years of making a heavy canvas tepee I chose to redesign them to be light weight also.
