The Cowboy Bedroll comes from an age old practice that began with a giant sheet of canvas. We set out with our standard Ellis ethos of designing a more functional, lightweight version of the same time-tested concept. Our design has come a long way in the past thirty years. It’s gone through multiple generations and seen continuous refinements over the years just as the rest of our product line. It’s the best bedroll we’ve ever made. It’s the most comfortable and complete sleep system for any ramble that may arise. It’s the Cowboy Bedroll, and it’s not just for Cowboys anymore. Giddy-up.

More Info

The perfect sleep bundle for inside your tent or under the stars, The Cowboy Bedroll is designed after cowboy bedding of old with material and design improvements signature to Colorado canvas legend, Dave Ellis. This is a deluxe canvas bivy sack with an integrated 3” sleeping pad. The canvas is rugged and durable 12.6oz mineral-dyed Sunforger army duck, with a box-shaped 34″W x 9″H x 84”L or 46”W x 9”H x 84”L full zip-enclosure with a vented headboard to house all of your sleeping gear. Your mattress, sleeping bag, pillows, clothes, and toothbrush can all be rolled up inside and cinched into a tidy weather-resistant bundle within minutes to transport to your next site. The integrated head-flap which closes the roll doubles as a rain-fly in foul weather, keeping you warm and dry with ample ventilation through the mesh headboard. The elements stay out, and the cozy stays in, no matter where you sleep. This is the ultimate companion for camping, horseback expeditions, festivals, road trips, or even random houseguests who deserve better than a saggy air mattress on the floor. You won’t believe it until you try one. This is the best outdoor sleep you’ll ever have.

Should of had it years ago, amazing

I wrote this right after receiving the bedroll in the mail:

Hey I just wanted to send you a note - I am 6' 4" and I cannot believe how well I fit in this thing. Even fully zipped up, I had room to sleep in pretty much any position I wanted. I think back to the last 15 years of using a typical synthetic material sleeping bag/inflatable pad system to sleep outdoors and how uncomfortable I was all those nights-I wish I had known about this much sooner. I want to thank you for putting out a natural material, fully sized, all in one sleep system like this. I can't wait to use it out in the high desert here next week. I know customer support can be challenging at times with folks and you just hear complaints, so I just wanted to send you this note of appreciation.

Thanks again for putting out such great products!

And this is my review after sleeping in some adverse conditions in the high desert in February:

I took this out to the high desert in what was supposed to be perfect calm and sunny winter desert weather. Well, that was not the case. The temps dropped to the low 40's and we had constant 20-30mph winds with gusts up to 40mph. Everything had to be tied down and secured, it was like being in a sandblaster.

The first night, my buddy was in a regular tent - it completely failed, and was blowing completely flat onto him one second, then the wind would switch the other way, and the tent would go completely flat the other direction. Finally, around 3am, a pole snapped and he was sleeping in a completely flat tent, cold and uncomfortable. The wind also ripped out all the stakes, the only thing holding the tent down was his weight.

Meanwhile, I had thrown down the bedroll in a more exposed area, and it was so heavy and flat to the ground the wind didn't move things around at all. Also you know how tents make a lot of noise flapping in the wind? This bedroll doesn't-the fabric moves but doesn't make noise. The canvas blocked all wind too, nothing got through. I slept great. Also before sleeping, I had plenty of room to read with a red light.

We had two nights of this, my buddy gave up on the tent and slept in a cave bundled up as much as he could, and I was fine in the bedroll. Slept great with just the bedroll, he had to wake me up as he was up, shivering before dawn and I was snoozing away ha ha.

I can't wait to have this the back of the truck when I drive from the south west corner of the US to Montana - I can drive all day and throw this down in whatever random campsite I come across. I have done this with tents before, but setup and take down is a pain, especially if there's heavy dew and you need to get on the road ASAP. Plus it's great to crash at friends houses with this, you can just throw it down and there's your bed.

This review is for the largest model with the pad, etc. Also that pad is the best pad I have ever slept on outdoors. There's no comparison. I was on dirt, sand and rock and felt nothing.

Also - this was done with no sleeping bag, I had cotton sheets, and three blankets. Not sure what the windchill was, but it was COLD. I was fine.

Highly recommend the investment in this heritage piece. It will serve you well.

Nice Bedroll

Great quality Bedroll, fast shipping.
Customer Service is Top Notch, spoke with them twice.
Ordered with the foam pad which is also top quality.
Unfortunately the pad didn't work for me and this issue is not the fault of the company.
The reason is my age and several neck surgeries and severe Arthritis in my lower back.
But now I have a extra pad for my Grandson to use , and he finds it extra comfortable.
Been using a Thermarest for the Bedroll so it all worked out.
Would recommend this system 👌

Comfortable and made to last!!!

My wife and I received a pair of this bedroll over 18 years ago as a wedding present and they are still in good condition, have never had to replace the zipper. We can put them together to make a queen sized sleeping bag and stay soooo comfy.
